Scholarship Application Instructions

Important!!

Please read before starting application!

Be prepared to complete the application in a single sitting. Once you start our application, you will not be able to complete it partially, save your work and return to complete it at a later time.  For that reason, applicants must complete the required essay in advance, and have it scanned (if necessary) and in an approved file format on your computer so it can be easily uploaded to the online application. Similarly, other required documents should be scanned and ready to upload. See Section VI in the instructions for more information about the required upload submissions. The full list of documents required for upload are as follows:

•             The required essay

•             Your high school transcript

•             A copy of your signed FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid)

•             A signed and dated letter of recommendation on school letterhead from a teacher or counselor

•             A letter of acceptance from an accredited college or university

                                                                                      CRITERIA FOR ELIGIBILTY

1) Must be a resident of the District of Columbia; (2) Must be a graduating senior of a public school or public charter high school in D. C.; (3) Must present a Letter of Recommendation on school letterhead from a teacher or counselor; (4) Must present a Letter of Acceptance from an accredited college or university; (5) Must submit a copy of the 2023-2024 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA); (6) Must submit a fully completed application packet; (7) Must complete an interview with representatives from The Oracle Set Foundation Scholarship Committee

                                                                                 SECTION I – STUDENT PROFILE

Complete demographic information as required.  Required input is identified with a red asterisk.  Important: You will not be able to move to the next section or submit the Application if the required information is not provided, you cannot move on to the next section or submit the application.      

                                                                SECTION III – SCHOOL SPORTS PARTICIPATION

 

In this section you can identify up to four school sports organizations in which you participated.  Indicate the position you played in the second column.  In the third column, choose among the options provided, the number of years you participated in each of the sports programs you list.

                                                           SECTION IV – COMMUNITY/EMPLOYMENT ACTIVITIES

 

In this section you can identify up to four non-school organizations or activities in which you participated.  These activities can include, for example, Boy/Girl Scouts, church activities, political/social/environmental activism, and employment.  Indicate the city and state in which the activity took place.  In the third column, choose among the options provided, the number of years you participated in each activity.

                                                        SECTION V – RECOGNITION/AWARDS/OPPORTUNITIES

In this section you can identify up to three special recognition, awards, or opportunities you have received.  These may include recognition for any kind of academic achievement; recognition or awards from activities or organizations in which you have participated; opportunities for unique training like internships associated with part-time or summer jobs. Identify the award recognition in the first column.  Indicate type of recognition/award in the second. In the third column, fill in the year you received the award/recognition.

SECTION IV – REQUIRED UPLOADS

1.       Upload essay: Write an essay containing 750 to 1,000 words on the following topic: “What Is the Most Important Issue Facing Young Adults in Washington, D.C. today?”  As indicated earlier in these instructions, please have the document written and scanned (if necessary) and ready for upload into the online Scholarship Application package.  The document may be uploaded in .pdf or Word document format.

 

2.       Upload High School transcript

 

3.       Upload a signed and dated Letter of Recommendation on school letterhead from a teacher or counselor.

 

4.       Upload a Letter of Acceptance from an accredited college or university

 

5.       Upload a signed and dated copy of your 2023-2024 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) 

All of the above uploads are required before you can submit your application.  The application will not process your input for submission if any of the required uploads have not been completed.

                                                                                               SUBMISSION

 

After you have completed all of the Sections and uploaded the require documents, click the “Submit Application” bar.  Wait a few seconds for the message: “Your application has been completed and submitted successfully…” to appear. If you do not get the message, send an email immediately to [email protected] with a brief message indicating the problem along with your name and contact information.  A member of the Scholarship Committee will get back to you quickly.

                                                                                                INTERVIEW

After your online application has been submitted and reviewed, a member of the Oracle Set Foundation Scholarship Committee will contact you for an interview.
